Are you willing to take on the #Lockdown Colour Project Challenge?

Dear Capel Manor,

I have just completed a home learning activity with my 3 year old daughter and Mr Corcoran this afternoon and thought I would share it with you all as it was great fun. What’s even better is that all the family living at home with you can join in too whilst we are having to stay indoors to help keep everyone safe.

It is basically a colour ‘treasure hunt’ around your house to look for objects in all the colours of the rainbow. You then lay all the objects out on a table or other flat surface and then take a photograph of your creation from above. It is called a flat lay. flat lay is simply a photo of objects arranged on a flat surface, captured from directly above.

I cannot take credit for this colourful idea however, I took it from a lady called Martha Roberts, who is a writer and creator of ‘The Colour File’ on Instagram.

If your parents/carers have an Instagram account, then they can follow her @the_colour_file. (Remember, you have to 13 years old to use Instagram, so your parents/carers can only create accounts and follow people – NOT you!)

I’ve included some examples of colour flat lays that I’ve taken from Martha’s Instagram account to give you some ideas of what you can do. The possibilities are endless and there are no hard and fast rules, accept to have fun! You can create flat lays in the colours of the rainbow, or just pick your favourite colour and take it from there!

It also links really nicely to the ‘rainbows of positivity’ that are being displayed on windows across the nation to cheer us all up at this difficult time.

Children, parents/carers and staff…will you accept the #lockdowncolourproject challenge?  If so, please send us your creations, we’d love to share them.

Dhiana, in year 2 Cypress, has been helping the community throughout these hard times. She emailed her teachers to explain this:

I would like to share with you what I have been doing along with my mummy.

We have been making food and sending it to NHS staff,  Homeless, Venerable People, Elderly, Care Homes, Families, Students, Schools, Domestic Abusive Sufferers and other people who are in need.

My mummy has also set up a Gofundme Page to raise £1000 and have raised £695 so far.

I have made a collage to show you my pictures and an appreciation letter from the NHS -see below.

It has been great fun doing this with my mummy. It is very hard work but when I see the faces of people who need the meals, it makes me feel it was all worth it. I also have learnt to appreciate what we have as some people do not have a roof over their heads.
