History

At Capel Manor, we aim for a high quality history curriculum which should inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Our aim is for all children to have an understanding of key periods in history and to learn to ask questions about why things have happened in the past and the impact of those events.

The history curriculum at Capel Manor is carefully planned and structured to ensure that current learning is linked to previous learning and that the school’s approaches are informed by current pedagogy.

The key aims of history in our school are:

  • to foster an interest in and understanding of the past
  • to enable children to know about significant events in British and world history
  • to develop skills of enquiry, investigation, analysis, evaluation and presentation.
  • to develop a sense of chronology
