Art

Before a child talks, they sing. Before they write, they draw. As soon as they stand, they dance. Art is fundamental to human expression.

Art is an important part of school life at Capel Manor Primary School. Art embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art  education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art reflects and shapes our history, and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Through the evaluation of Great Artists and the art they have produced, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation. Throughout their time at Capel Manor, children will:

  • know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
  • produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
  • become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
  • evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.

Capel Manor Primary School designed, made and exhibited Christmas Hoops this year using a range of Art and Design and Technology skills such as sculpture, painting and paper quilling. These were displayed in the Main hall for all to enjoy over the festive period. All children designed, made a finished product using various materials and evaluated the outcome. When they had been displayed their incredible designs the children took them home to decorate their homes!
